"Protect and Serve." That is what you should expect from the police officers that serve in Lower Gwynedd. Doing that, while showing compassion and concern is what I demand from them.
There are no words that can adequately explain the callous disregard for human life, at the hands of those that took the same oath that I, along with every member of my department has taken. We are all dismayed at the lack of humanity shown by those officers and outraged at the needless death of George Floyd.
The Lower Gwynedd Police Department has worked tirelessly under my tenure to build and maintain our ties to the community that we are blessed to work in. We have never taken for granted who it is that we work for, you the community. In an effort to maintain the highest standards for our officers we have focused in on professional development. These include: achieving and maintaining our status as an accredited police agency, ensuring that we constantly review and engage in best practices, establishing a school resource officer, having multiple officers engaged in community programs to establish a clear communication between our officers and the public.
All of our officers have received training in Cultural Diversity, Use of Force, Situational de-escalation and arrest techniques. We maintain Mobile Video Recorders in every marked police car and our officers are required to wear body cams on patrol. Every officer has their videos reviewed at least four times a year to ensure that we are maintaining the best practices. We maintain and analyze data on every arrest, traffic citation and contact our officers have with the community to ensure that we are showing every citizen, regardless of race, gender or age, the same unbiased services that they deserve.
Finally, I would like to thank all of the citizens of Lower Gwynedd Township for their support over the years. It truly is an honor for us to be part of this profession and to serve you. We look forward to strengthening our relationship with our residents and building trust. The Lower Gwynedd Township Police Department will remain committed to putting the needs of the community first.
