Spotted Lanternfly Alert (Winter 2019)

The Spotted Lanternfly is an invasive pest that will kill your trees and is spreading rapidly in our area. The preferred host plant is the Tree of Heaven but the Lanternfly has been reported on over 70 tree species. Winter is the ideal time to kill the Lanternfly’s eggs.

Here’s what to do now through the Spring:

  1. Examine your trees
  2. Identify the egg cases (seen below)
  3. Scrape the egg masses off the trees
  4. Double bag and dispose of the egg casings or place them in alcohol or hand sanitizer to kill them
