Road Construction Update

Route 202 near the intersection of Hancock Road in Upper and Lower Gwynedd townships will be reduced to one lane of traffic with intermittent stoppages on Tuesday through Friday, August 3-6, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. Day time single lane restrictions will also be in place at the same location from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The restriction will allow crews to excavate rock for the relocation of utilities. Motorists are advised to add extra time for travel through the work zone or to avoid the area if possible. More information can be found at www.us202-700.com.

Construction is scheduled to be substantially complete at Norristown Road and Route 309 by the end of August. According to PennDOT, Norristown Road had to be lowered by two feet to meet federal Highway Administration requirements. Raising the Route 309 bridge was not an option according to PennDOT spokesman due to the curvature of the road in the area ,drainage issues and costs. PennDOT will be milling and paving Tennis Avenue August 2- August 6, 2010. Traffic will be restricted on Tennis Avenue in Lower Gwynedd and Upper Dublin Townships from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM while work is performed.

POLICE NOTIFICATION TO RESIDENTS

The Lower Gwynedd Police Department has been experiencing a number of thefts from unlocked autos in the area of PenAmbler Road and Penllyn Pike. All residents are urged:

* Not to place any items of value in plain view in their vehicle;

* Lock their vehicles, even if they are parked in the driveway;

* Immediately call 9-1-1 if they observe any suspicious activity in their neighborhood, especially in the late evening hours or during the night. The activity may include person(s) walking around the neighborhood; a vehicle driving on the street with the lights out; a vehicle parked in the neighborhood in an unusual location.

Park & Recreation Discounted Park/Ski Tickets

During the summer months between May and August the Township offers discounted tickets to amusement parks, the Philadelphia Zoo and Baltimore Aquarium along with a variety of other family attractions. During the winter season, discounted ski and tubing tickets are available for a variety of the local ski resorts.

Sewer Rate Increase

Businesses and residents will see an increase in their sewer user fees beginning with the July billing. Quarterly rates will increase from $65 to $80 for the first 12,000 gallons of usage; and from $4.25 to $5.25 per 1,000 gallons in excess of 12,000 gallons used. The increase was necessitated to meet capital costs for upgrades to the Ambler Borough Treatment Plant, many of which are mandated by State and Federal regulations. The rate increase will also allow the Township to continue to repair and replace its aging sewer pipes in the Township. The well rate will increase from $103 to $126.80.
