Emergency Preparedness Resources

Smart 911

Smart911 is a free, private, and secure safety profile that provides first responders in Montgomery County with the information they need to assist you in an emergency. Over 80% of 911 calls are made from a mobile device, which provides very little information about the caller to 911 call takers. With Smart911, you can provide 911 call takers and first responders with critical information you want them to know in any kind of emergency. It is a national service, which means your safety profile is available to any participating 911 call center nationwide.

General Preparedness

Ready.gov is a National public service campaign from the US Department of Homeland Security designed to educate and empower the American people to prepare for, respond to and mitigate emergencies and disasters.

Special Needs Planning

ReadyPA offers emergency preparedness resources, including guidance for those with special needs.

Business Emergency Contact Information

Local businesses are encouraged to annually complete and submit an emergency contact form.  The information is shared with the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety to ensure that first responders have contact information available for businesses in the Township.

Fire Marshal

The Fire Marshal is responsible for the enforcement of the Fire Code in Lower Gwynedd Township, and investigates the origin and cause of all fires which occur in the Township. The Fire Marshal is responsible for the inspection of the effectiveness of fire protection equipment and compliance with fire prevention regulations in commercial, industrial buildings, places of assembly, schools, institutions, and multiple-family dwellings.

The Fire Marshal reminds residents that burning is not permitted in Lower Gwynedd except in a commercially available chimenea, fire pit or similar device, with a fire no larger that 3 feet in diameter and 3 feet high.

Emergency Management

The Lower Gwynedd Township Emergency Management team develops and maintains comprehensive disaster preparedness and assistance plans and programs that address relevant hazards. These plans culminate in the Township's Emergency Operations Plan, which outlines how the Township coordinates with other local, county, state and federal agencies in the event of an emergency.

When a local emergency is declared, Emergency Management staff operate an Emergency Operations Center to coordinate the management of community-wide resources (police, public works, fire, EMS, food, shelters, etc.) with various local, county, state and federal agencies to appropriately respond to an emergency event.
