9 11 Trail Sign

The 9/11 National Memorial Trail Alliance is proposing to have a small portion of the route for the 1,500+ mile 9/11 National Memorial Trail run through Lower Gwynedd Township. The Alliance has been working for several years to establish a multi-use trail connecting the three National Memorials associated with the September 11th attacks and hopes to have trail signage completed in time for the 25th anniversary.

Proposed Lower Gwynedd Route

The trail would primarily follow existing roads through Lower Gwynedd. From the west, the proposed route would travel along:

Township Line Road → Plymouth Road → Evans Road → Tanglewood Drive → Stonington Circle → Rose Lane → Gwynedd View Road

The route would then connect to an existing trail that parallels Route 202.

PennDOT has approved the 9/11 Trail designation along the portions of the route that are located on PennDOT-maintained roads. The Township Board of Supervisors is being asked to approve the designation along Township-maintained roads.

What Would Change?

There would be no changes to the roads, traffic patterns, or existing roadway use as a result of the trail designation.

The only physical change would be the installation of route markers identifying the 9/11 National Memorial Trail. The 9/11 National Memorial Trail Alliance would provide and install the signs, and there would be no cost to Lower Gwynedd Township.

Residents are invited to attend the Board of Supervisors’ meeting on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 7:00 PM to learn more about the proposed route from the Alliance and ask questions about the trail designation.
